Gunter Family Tree, New World, Pt. 1

Saturday, Apr 23, 2016 by MarksCarts *

The following is an accurate, so far as I am able to determine, accounting of my lineage, covering the six generations from 1700 - 1880. It begins with John Gunter, a pre-Revolutionary War American who resided in the Virginia colony and worked as a surveyor, and carries through to P. C. H. Gunter, my great-grandfather, who served for Tennessee in the Civil War. Several of my ancestors fought for this new country in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and for the Confederate States of America in the War Between the States.

I'm just posting here a skeletal summary of the lineage, with very few notes. In the days ahead, I will post information and stories of some of the individuals mentioned here, in order to flesh out these bones a bit. Dear visitors of this page, if you have any information to add, please comment in the section below using your facebook account.

**Malinda Gunter is a child appearing in the PCH Gunter household on the census of 1900. Most family histories that I have found tend to list her as a child of Mary Elizabeth's, even though virtually all the family histories agree that Mary Elizabeth died prior to 1885. It seems that Malinda was born 1 - 4 years after the death of Mary Elizabeth, but a good 11 months prior to the marriage of PCH and Darthula Dodson. Malinda is a bit of a mystery child.
